Sonja de Sterke was born in The Netherlands, after traveling the world and a career in advertising, migrated to Australia in 1991.
Since she has acquired a Bachelor and a Masters degree in Visual Arts in photography from Griffith University in Brisbane and has worked as a full time Photographer for Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane for over thirteen years. In 2009 she was awarded the Spirit of Woodford Prize and became runner up in the Illustration category for the Epson AIPP Queensland Photography Awards. She also was awarded a grant for a permanent display of her work in the new East Wing of the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane.
Her passion is Nature and Landscape photography, portraying the essence and spirit of matter taking inspiration from Quantum Physics, Aboriginal and Eastern Philosophies.
