What is Canon APPA?
APPA is the acronym for the Australian Professional Photography Awards, which are held annually and usually coincide with the staging of an annual photo imaging exhibition organised by the Photo Imaging Council of Australia (PICA). The current major sponsor of APPA is Canon.
Professional photographers from Australia and New Zealand compete for a number of industry awards by submitting four images, which are judged by a panel of their peers. The Canon AIPP APPA attracts hundreds of entries and the premier award is the title of "The Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photographer of the Year". Each year award winning images are published in an Awards Book.
AIPP Members who participate in the APPA are able to accrue "award points" which count towards the achievement of Associate and Master status within AIPP.
The Canon AIPP APPA Travelling Collection
The Canon Australian Professional Photography Awards represent the very best in Australian Professional Photography.
Award winning images entered into the competition (that receive an award of gold or above) tour nationally in the Canon APPA travelling collection. The high standard of these images each year highlights the outstanding skill, imagination and innovation that is alive in Australian professional photography.
In it's 33rd year (2009) the awards are expected to top the entry number of 2008 which was over 2450! Entrants are each competing for top honours in their specialised categories and the coveted title of Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photographer for the Year.

Canon is proud to once again partner with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography in 2009 to stage the Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards. Together with the AIPP, Canon is dedicated to raising the profile of professional photography in Australia through what has become the pinnacle professional photography event in this country.
Now in their 33rd year, the Canon Australian Professional Photography Awards are a time-honoured platform for the continual development and promotion of professional photography. Competitive peer judgement drives excellence and creative experimentation, while broad media attention and publicity via an extended exhibition programme and a magnificent book of winning images celebrates the achievement of Australia's professional photographers and promotes the endeavour of professional photography in Australia.
